Snow and Snowmen Crafts for Toddlers and Preschoolers

1. Snowflake Salt Painting                     (Preschool)

The template I used is from here, but you can get some free templates from https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/snowflake-salt-painting-winter-science/.   





  Materials 
  1. Salt
  2. Template
  3. Cardstock
  4. Food coloring watered down, watercolor paints, or liquid watercolors
  5. Brush or pipette
  6.Glue
  7. Water








Instructions:
1. Download and print off template on construction paper.
2. Trace the snowflakes with glue.
3. Cover all of the glue with salt.
4. Pour off extra salt.
5.  If using food coloring, mix with few drops of water.
6. Use a brush or a pipette to add color to each snowflake a little bit at a time.




2. Snowman from a paper towel tube           (preschool)

      Materials
  • Paper towel tube cut smaller
  • White paint
  • Markers
  • Beads/buttons
  • Pom poms
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Felt
  • Orange construction paper
  • Small pieces of broken skewer stick
  • Glue gun
Instructions:
1. Cut tube down to desired size.
2. Paint white.
3. Let it dry.
4. Add a face with a marker.
5. Make earmuffs out of a small piece of a pipe cleaner and two pom poms. Glue it on.
6. Cut a small scarf out of felt. Glue it on.
7. Glue on beads or buttons for buttons.
8. Glue on two small stick pieces for arms.



3. Hat and Mitten Craft              (both toddler and preschool)


                                                 
 Materials                                                                                      
1. Mitten template  and  hat template
2. White cardstock
3. Cotton balls
4. Snow stickers
5. Sequins
6. Watercolor paints
7. Markers (to add additional designs)
8. Yarn to attach hat to mittens
9. Glue
10. Scissors









4. Snowflake made from 4 popsicle sticks     (both toddler and preschool)

Materials:
1. popsicle sticks
2. paint
3. sequins
4. pom poms 
5. glitter
6. glue


Instructions:
1. Paint four craft sticks.
2. Put a line of glue down the middle of each craft stick.
3. Put glitter on the glue.
4. Put glue in the middle of each craft stick.
5. Glue them together to form a snowflake shape.
6. Add sequins to each craft stick.






5. Snowman Door Hanger             (both toddler and preschool)


Materials:
1. 7 jumbo craft sticks
2. Black and white paint
3. Googly eyes
4. Ribbon in a variety of colors
5. Sponge brushes
6. Orange cardstock
7. Glue gun

6. Egg Carton Snowman (both toddler and preschool)

Materials:

1. Egg cartons cut into sets of three cartons
2. Pipe cleaners in variety of colors for arms and earmuffs
3. White paint
4. Brushes
5. Paper plate or container for paint
6. Orange construction paper for nose
7. Black permanent marker for buttons and mouth
8. Felt in variety of colors for scarf
9. Pom poms in variety of colors for ear muffs
10. Glue gun
11. Variety of construction paper for option of a hat

Note: I gave children the option between making earmuffs and making a hat out of construction paper.



7.Name Snowman Craft    (preschool)

Materials:
1. 2 inch circle template
2. foam snowflakes
3. Pipe cleaners for arms and ear muffs
4. Felt for scarf, hat (instead of earmuffs), and/or arms
5. Cotton balls for snow on ground 
6. Stickers, beads, buttons, etc for other decoration options
7. Orange construction paper for nose
8. Dark blue and light blue construction paper for background
9. White cardstock for circles
10 Glue
11. Scissors

*While I model the craft, I always tell the children not to try to make their snowman look like mine. I encourage them to be as creative as they want. 

Instructions:
In advance, run template on white cardstock. Give each child one page of circles. If the child is not able to cut yet, the parent will cut out one circle for the head in addition to one circle for each letter of the child's name.
