Toddler and Preschool Train Crafts

1. Sponge Painted Train Craft       (toddler and preschool)

I modified a craft from buggyandbuddy.com
 Materials:
1. Sponges cut in various shapes
2. Paint in various colors
3. Brushes
4. Markers to draw track and ties connecting train cars
5. 11 by 17 sheets of paper
6. Black dot marker for wheels
7. Six inch plates to put paint on.
8. Scissors















Instructions:
1. Cut sponges into various shapes: triangles, squares, rectangles, circles, diamonds, half circles, moons, etc.
2. Put various colors of paint on each plate.
3. Pick which sponges and which colors you would like to make a train with.
4. Put the selected sponge in the paint. Start on the far left or the far right side of the paper. Make the engine first.
5. The train can go up and/or down or straight across the paper.
6. If desired, you can use different shapes and different colors for each car.
6. After all the cars are stamped, draw a train track underneath them using a black marker.
7. Then add two wheels below each car using a black dot marker.
8. Use a black marker to draw connecting ties between each train car.


2. Thumb Print and Fingerprint Train   (preschool)

I modified a craft from http://www.craftoart.com.
Material:
1.  11 by 17 sheet of paper
2. 6 inch paper plates
3. Variety of colors of paint
4. Thin markers to decorate cars and to draw track
5. Cotton ball
6. Ruler










Instructions:
1. Begin with the engine on either the far left or far right of the paper. Use your fingertips to make the engine and cars.
2. After the engine, make one car for each letter of your name.
3. Use a different color for each car.
4. After the paint is dry, use a marker add wheels to each car and ties between each car.
5. Add other details to each car like windows and ladders.
6. Use a ruler to draw a gray line underneath the wheels for the rail. Then draw short brown lines under the rail for the railroad ties.
7. Dip a cotton ball in gray paint to create the smoke coming out of the engine.
