Toddler and Preschool Bear Crafts

1. Bear Painted with a Fork Craft   (both Toddler and Preschool)

Materials:
1. Fork
2. White piece of construction paper
3. Googly eyes
4. Brown paint
5. Brown piece of construction paper
6. Permanent black marker
7. Glue
8. Brush if desired

Instructions:
1. Dip fork in paint, and begin making lines in a circle to form a head.
2. Continue making lines further out until the head is the size that you want.
3. With either the fork or a brush, add part of the bear's torso below the head.
4. Glue on googly eyes.
5. Cut out a circle from the brown construction paper for the snout. Draw a nose and a mouth on the circle. Glue it on the head.
6. Fold the rest of the brown paper over. Cut out an ear. Now you have two ears that are the same size.
7. Glue on the ears.

2. "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" Map to Retell Story        (preschool)

I did this craft after doing a storytime on bears. The third book we read was "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen. Click here for a link to the full storytime outline.

Materials:
1. Large sheet of paper
2. Green construction paper for grass
3. Blue construction paper for river
4. Brown paint
5. Green construction paper
6. Brown construction paper
7. White glitter or glitter glue
8. Cotton balls
10. Black marker
11. Crayons
12. Glue

Instructions:
1. Fold paper into six equal parts. You can still see the creases if you look at the picture above. This helps the children know which item from the story goes in each square.
2. To create the long wavy grass, cut a small rectangle from the green construction paper. All the way across the top, cut slits into the rectangle that go most of the way to the bottom.  glue along the bottom of the grass. Then glue it to the first box, and crinkle the blades of grass.
3. Cut a river out of blue construction paper. Add some waves to it using a black marker. Glue on the river  in the second box.
4. Dip finger in brown paint. Spread paint in a circular shape inside the third box in the top row to form the mud.
5. Cut triangles out of green construction paper. Cut narrow rectangles out of brown construction paper. Glue these together into the last box of the bottom row to form trees.
6. Take a cotton ball, and stretch it out. Glue it to the bottom of the middle box in the bottom row.  Use glitter glue or glue to draw some snowflakes in the air. If using glue, then sprinkle on glitter over the top to form snow.
7. Cut a cave shape out of a brown piece of construction paper. Cut out the middle of the cave.  Glue the cave to the last empty box. Take a black crayon and color in the rest of the cave. Cut out a bear from the page of clip art. Color it whatever color you would like. Then glue it inside the opening of the cave.
8. Take a crayon or black marker and trace the path to the cave going through each stop in the story.
