Book: "Leaves" by David Ezra Stein
Fingerplay with shakers: (I downloaded a squirrel clip art and printed out 5 copies of it. We chanted first in English and then changed a few words to Spanish.)
“Five Little Squirrels”
Five little squirrels/cinco ardillas pequeñas with acorns to store.
One went to sleep and then there were four!
Four little squirrels/cuatro ardillas pequeñas hunting acorns in a tree.
One fell down, and now there are three!
Three little squirrels/tres ardillas pequeñas wondering what to do.
One got lost, and now there are two!
Two little squirrels/dos ardillas pequeñas tossing acorns for fun.
One got tired, and now there is one!
One little squirrel/una ardilla pequeña playing in the sun.
He ran away, now there are none.

Song with shakers:
“Squirrels in Autumn”
(Tune: "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain")
I'll be gathering all the acorns/las bellotas till they're gone.
I'll be gathering all the acorns/las bellotas till they're gone.
I'll be gathering all the acorns/las bellotas, gathering all the acorns/las bellotas, I will be gathering all the acorns/las bellotas till they're gone. (Children make collecting motions with their hands.)
And I'll put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa.
I will put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa
I will put them all inside, put them all inside,I will put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa.
(Children pretend to place nuts in tree house.)
And I'll eat the nuts/las nueces when winter comes.
I will eat the nuts/las nueces until the winter's gone.
I will eat the nuts/las nueces until, eat the nuts/las nueces until,I will eat the nuts/las nueces when winter comes.
(Children pretend to eat acorns.
Then I'll do it all again come next fall/otoño.
I will do it all again come next fall/otoño.
I will do it all again, do it all again,I will do it all again next fall/otoño.
(Children make gathering motion with hands and arms again)
Book: "Hello Fall"
And I'll put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa.
I will put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa
I will put them all inside, put them all inside,I will put them all inside my little home/mi pequeña casa.

Craft Time:
We completed a dot page for letter Ff. You can find these dot pages here.
I had the children paint a tree on construction paper and use red, yellow, brown, and orange lentils and beans for the leaves. I modeled the craft and then the children completed it with their parents.
