 1. Paper Plate Owl Craft                            (Toddler and Preschool)

Option 1: Flying
Option 2: Standing

Materials:
1. 9 inch paper plates
2. Yellow construction paper
3. Orange constuction paper
4. Brown tempera paint
5. Feathers that are various shades of brown (optional)
6. Googly eyes
8. Paint brushes
9. Scissors
10. Glue stick
11. Glue gun

Instructions:

1. Choose option 1 or option 2. For option 1, plaint two paper plates brown. For option 2, paint three paper plates brown. Let dry.
2. Cut out a curved rectangle from the top of one paper plate to form ears.
3. Cut a second paper plate in half to form wings.
4. Use a glue gun to attach one end of each wing to the head. If making the flying option, have the wings a little more raised than what is shown.
5. If doing option 2, glue the top of the third paper plate to the head and the wings to form the body of the owl. Cut claws out of orange construction paper. Glue tip of each to bottom of body as shown.
6. Cut out two yellow circles that are larger than the googly eyes used. The googly eye I used were  almost an inch in diameter, so I used a 2 inch template to cut out yellow circles. If you don't have googly eyes, https://craftsbyamanda.com does provide templates to cut out small black circles and slightly larger white circles to make your own.
7. Mount the googly eyes on the yellow circles. Glue the yellow circles to the face.
8. Cut out an orange triangle for the beak.
9. If desired, use a glue gun to add feathers to wings.

2. Paint paper towel tube desired color. Let dry.

6. Cut a diamond or a triangle out of orange construction paper for the beak. Glue this on.
7.  Choose a desired color of construction paper for the feathers on the owl's stomach. Punch out aproximately 14 circles from this color. Use a glue stick to overlay the circles in three rows below the beak of the owl.

3. Acorn Owl Craft                         (Preschool)

Materials:
1. Pine cones
2. Various colrs of craft feathers
3. Orange craft foam
4. Various other colors of craft foam
5. Small googly eyes

2. Glue a googly eye to each circle. Then glue the circles near the top of the pine cone.
3. Select a color of feathers to use. Use the glue gun to glue a feather to the right and left sides of the pine cone.
4. Cut two very small triangles out of the orange craft foam. Lay one on top of the other, and glue the edge of both to the pine cone.
5. Cut two sets of feet out of orange, yellow, or gray craft foam. An owl's foot has four toes. When in flight and perching, three of these toes face forward and one faces backwards.

4. Cut the circle in half to create wings.
5. Overlap the tip of the wings, and glue to the top of the insect's body.

5.  Paper Plate Hedgehogs                          (Preschool)

Materials:
1. 9 inch paper plate
2. Markers
3. Scissors
4. Googly Eyes
5. Pencil
6. Colored pencils
7. Tape
8. Glue stick or glue gun

Note*: Both links above have pictures of each step. I merely modified the curve of the porcupine's quills to look more realistic.

Instructions:
1. Fold nine inch plate in half. Put two or three pieces of folded tape inside to hold the two sides of the paper plate together.
2. Use pencil to draw a line a curved line from where the tip of the nose will be to the beginning of the quills. Cut along this line.
3. Trim curve of paper plate to make the body of the hedgehog look more realistic.
4. Hedgehogs can be a variety of colors. Decide on preferred color. Use colored pencil or marker to draw an ear.
5. Use the same marker or colored pencil to draw a line to separate the coloring of the quills from the white underside of the hedgehog. Start this line from the beginning of where the quills will be all the way to the end of the quills.
6. Color in all of the paper plate that is above this line.
7. Use a black marker to draw the nose and a line for the mouth.
8. Glue on googly eye.
9. Cut slits all along colored section to create quills. Cut only to the line previously drawn along bottom of quills.
