Bedtime or Moon Crafts for Toddlers and Preschoolers

1. Foil Painted Moon Craft                  (both toddler and preschool)

This craft followed a bedtime themed storytime. While modeling the craft, explain that not all stars are yellow. They can range from red, green, and blue depending on how hot they are.

Materials:
1. Foil
2. Black construction paper
3. White copy paper
4. Black paint
5. Gray paint
6. Red, blue, and yellow paint for stars
7. Large circle template
8. Glue stick
9. Scissors
10. Measure cup to prepare foil stamps (optional)
11. Paper plate
12. Thin brush



Instructions:
1. Press a sheet of foil into the measuring cup. Wad it up inside to create a base and a handle.
2. Print off a copy of the circle template on white copy paper.
2. Put gray and white paint on a paper plate.
3. Press the foil into the paint, and then use it to paint the moon.
4. Add black paint to the paper plate. Add some black spots to the moon for craters.
5. Cut out the moon circle, and glue it on a sheet of black construction paper.
6. Add a small amount of red, blue, and yellow paint to the paper plate. Use the handle side of a thin brush to add dots for stars.


2.  Paper Plate Moon and Sun Craft               (preschool)

This craft followed a bedtime themed storytime. The idea came from a picture on Pinterest.
This step was prepared in advance for each child.


Materials:
1. Paper plate with pattern drawn on in advance
2. Gray, yellow, and blue paint
3. Brushes
4. Star stickers
5. Permanent black markers

Instructions:
1. Give each child a plate with the pattern drawn on in advance.
2. The children paint the moon side gray and the sun yellow.
3. They paint the sky blue.
4. They add star stickers to the side of the moon.
5. Using a permanent marker, a face is added with half in the moon and half in the sun.
