Introduced theme

Reminded the children that we have been learning about fall. Asked them what happens to the leaves in the fall.

Story: "Leaves" by David Ezla Stein

Movement song using fabric leaves from Dollar Tree: “All the Leaves are Falling Down”(Tune: “London Bridges Falling Down”)

All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down   (Imitate leaves falling down)All the leaves are falling down, it is fall.
Take the rake and rake them up, rake them up, rake them up  (Imitate raking leaves)Take the rake and rake them up, it is fall.
Make a pile and jump right in, jump right in, jump right in,  (Children jump forward)Make a pile and jump right in, it is fall.

Movement song using fabric leaves: “The Leaves on the Trees”(Tune: “The Wheels on The Bus”)

The leaves on the trees are red, yellow, and brown,
Yellow and brown, yellow and brown.
The leaves on the trees are red, yellow and brown,
All through the town.
The leaves on the trees are falling down,
Falling down, falling down.
The leaves on the trees are falling down,
All through the town.
The leaves on the trees make a crunching sound,
Crunching sound, crunching sound.
The leaves on the trees make a crunching sound
All through the town.
Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound,
Into a mound, into a mound.
Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound
All through the town.
The children in the town jump on the leaves
On the leaves, on the leaves.
The children in the town jump on the leaves
All through the town.

Spanish song with shakers: “La Rana CucĂș”

Story: "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt" by Steve Mezger

Movement song using fabric leaves“Saw a Leaf”
(Tune:  “My Darling Clementine”)

Saw a leaf,
Saw a leaf,
Saw a leaf falling down.
It was floating,
It was twirling,
As it spun and spun around.
Tried to catch it,
Tried to catch it
When it landed on the ground.
But it kept right on twirling
As it danced across the town.

Movement song using fabric leaves: “Autumn Leaves”
(Tune: "Mulberry Bush")

Summer leaves are hanging,
Hanging, hanging
Summer leaves are hanging
All day long. (stand with arms outstretched)

Autumn leaves are turning colors
Turning color
Autumn leaves are turning color
All day long. (turn around)

Autumn leaves are falling down...All day long. (lower self to floor)
Autumn leaves are dancing....All day long. (dance)

Autumn leave are being raked.....All day long. (gather the leaves closer)

Goodbye song: (Tune: The Farmer in the Dell")
                         We tap adios like this
                         We tap adios like this
                          Hi-ho cherry
                          We tap adios like this

                          Continue with other verses:
                          We drop adios like this...
                          We circle adios like this...
                          We spin adios like this...
                          We toss adios like this...
                           We roll adios like this...
                           We stomp adios like this...

Modeled the craft and then parents helped their children complete it.

Leaf Collage: I brought in a variety of leaves. Children selected leaves to glue on, and they chose the color of construction paper they wanted to glue their leaves on. After the leaves were glued on, the children could paint glitter glue on them.

Gave the parents an activity to complete at home:
