2. Shredded Paper Bird Craft (toddler and preschool)
Modified from:https://artsymomma.com/shredded-paper-cd-birds.html
Materials:
1. 6 inch paper plate
2. Pre-shredded construction paper*
3. Paper shredder
4. Feathers
5. Googly eyes
6. Liquid glue
7. Orange construction paper
8. Scissors
9. Tray or lid from a box
10. Paint brush
11. Pencil
Note*: I provided shredded construction paper in four colors. The children chose from these.
Instructions:
1. Shred desired color of construction paper. Place the paper shreds in a tray or box lid to contain them.
2. Cover the back side of a six inch paper plate with glue using a paint brush.
3. Put the paper plate, with the glue side face down, into the tray with the shredded paper. Press the paper plate into the shredded paper.
4. Flip the paper plate over. If there are empty spots, cover these with shredded paper by hand.
5. Glue on two googly eyes.
6. Cut out a beak by folding over a small rectangle of orange construction paper, and cutting out a triangle. Glue on the beak.
7. Pick out three of four feathers. Glue one on for the wing and the rest on for the tail.
8. Cut out a two inch rectangle, and fold it over.
9. Use the pencil to draw a foot. Keep the paper folded over while cutting out the foot. Now you have two feet that are exactly the same.
19. Glue on the two feet.
Instructions:
1. Select desired plate size.
2. Paint desired color. Let dry.
3. Fold plate in half.
4. Decide whether you want your bird looking straight ahead or two the side.
5. If you want the bird looking straight ahead, put one eye in the same spot on both sides. If you want the bird looking to the side, put both eyes next to each other on the same side of the bird.
6. If you are making a forward looking bird, put feathers on both sides of the bird. If making a bird looking to the side, you only need to put feathers on one side.
7. If making a forward looking bird, make the beak by cutting a triangle and folding it in half down the middle. Line up the fold with the fold of the paper plate, gluing half on each side.
If making a bird looking to the side. fold a small rectangle in half before cutting a triangle out of the rectangle. Glue the beak below the eyes.
8. For the tail, cut several pieces of ribbon in various colors about 2 to 3 inches long depending on the size of your bird. As an alternative, you can also cut several thin pieces of cardstock in various colors.
9. For a forward looking bird, glue one end of half of the strips on each side of the paper plate on the end opposite the eyes. On a bird looking to the side, glue one end of all the strips together in a bundle to the end of the plate opposite of the eyes.
